King Lion (Jamaica) 2005 – CD “LIVE @ TAMSTA”  The Blues Makers Biography The Blues Makers band launched their career in 1990 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Gradually they achieved some success in their homeland country playing on various stages and participating at such festivals as ROCKROAD, HIPPY SESSION, etc. The same year, the band was the main power force in setting up the very first Blues&Rock’n’Roll club in Vilnius, the venue for both Lithuanian and foreign bands. SUMMIT ‘90, THE EURO The debute CD, “MAKING BLUES”, featuring a number of classical hits and the band’s originals of 1990/92, was released in 1994. The band developed some new ideas in cooperation with Californian musician James Brown in 1995, resulting extensive touring all across Lithuania presenting new songs. Two years later, the band’s leader Virgilijus Jutas got engaged into The Acoustic Trio Project, with the record being released later under Bomba Records label. Then at Moulin Blues Ospel Festival (Holland) Mr. Jutas had a great honor to play duo with one of the most prominent acoustic blues musician Keb’ Mo’... In 1997, The Blues Makers broadened their repertoire with some new songs with lyrics in their mother-tongue Lithuanian and played at NIDA ’97, SERIFO ATOSTOGOS ’97, BLUES NIGHTS, PUDASDRUSKOS, COUNTRY BLUES, ROKO MARSAS international festivals in Lithuania. The band dashed into RADIO CENTRAS Top Ten Hits with their THE SHIP OF ILLUSION song, also being featured in MUZIKINESVIESBUTIS TV project on the Lithuanian National TV Channel. Then there was the 1997 release of “MESLIEKAME ČIA” album. In 1998/99, two years in a row, the band won The Best Blues Band Award at SUMMER MARATHON Lithuanian National Music Festival. Also in 1998, Virgilijus Jutas took part in Juozas Milasius AUKSINESGITAROS project, having great success at BIRSTONAS JAZZ and VILNIUS JAZZ’98 festivals. In 1999, the B.M. played together with the black-blues singer Jimmy Lawson (USA) at his shows in Lithuania, and two years later this line-up took part at the BLUES FESTIVAL in Varniai. Then followed the 2001 release of “UZBURTAME RATE” (Bomba Records) album featuring popular Lithuanian pop&jazzsingress Neda. In 2002, the together project with King Lion (Jamaica) had been presented to public and the new CD “LIVE IN VILNIUS” was eventually released. Virgilijus Jutas performed as a duo with Alexander Belkin at XI OLSZTYNCKIE NOCE BLUESOVE festival in Poland. At the very end of 2002, the B.M. won the Lithuanian National Radio’s Best Rock Band Award . The Blues Makers began 2003 intensively touring in Germany (Bluesgarage, Hannower) and Russia (R&B Cafe, B.B. King Blues Club, etc., in Moscow). In the summer of 2003 B.M. had been voted the best Lithuania Blues&Jazz band by Brodvej Music Club’s board of members. Blues Makers toured all across Lithuania featuring blues and rock singer/performer from USA Gary Lowell. Also that summer B.M. took part at Varniai 2003 festival along with brass section of Green Bridge Band; this project also participated at annual Kaunas Jazz festival 2004. In the same year B.M.+KingVarniai Blues Festival. Band ended their successful year with visit to TORUN BLUES MEETING (Poland). Lion played at In the year of 2005 there was another CD, recorded together with the outstanding harmonica player from the very Mississipi Delta, Scott Albert Johnson. The same year’s summer B.M. again toured in LithuaniaBuden to play at Western Farm venue. and visited Swedish town of In 2006, Blues Makers took part in international Galicia Blues Festival(Krosno, Poland).At Varniai Blues Festival 2006, BM together with DJ Laimis introduced modern sounding BLUES GROOVE PROJECT. Meanwhile, Belkin&Jutas Acoustic Duo recorded their first CD „Live at Varniai Blues Festival“.Later on the same year Belkin&Jutas broadened their duo with the rythm section, of B.Tomasevic (drums) and S.Sopelev (bass) and played their special program “Country, Blues, Rockabilly” at Visagino Country 2006 festival, Visaginas, Lithuania. In the early spring of 2007, the acoustic Duo represented Lithuania blues situation at “In The Circle Of Blues”, Music Festival, Suwalki, Poland.In march 2007 the Duo went touring to Israel, where they joined American harmonica virtuoso Dov Hammer.As for Varniai Blues Festival that year, yhe Blues Makes presented “Tribute to Eric Clapton” project together with one of the best Lithuanian guitarists G.Sulinskas.In the summer 2007, V.Jutas as the very special guest of The Road Band, another Lithuanian leading blues band, played at Alanya Jazz Days,Turkey. On Feb. 16, 2008 Bluesmakers and Neda played a concert dedicated to Lithuanian Independence Day at Lithuanian embassy in Stockholm, Sweden. Belkin-Jutas Acoustic duo was invited and took part in Eutin Blues Festival 2008 (Germany).Traditionally, Bluesmakers presented their new program at Varniai Blues Festival, Lithuania. Then, BM successfullly appeared in Suwalki Blues Festival 2008, Poland. As a solo artist, V.Jutas took part at Akaciju Aleja (Kulautuva, Kaunas, Lithuania) bard festival. Also, in co-operation with the renown producer Andrius Borisevicius, V.Jutas recorded several songs for his debut album called Kur Veda Sirdis (Where Heart Leads). As a warming-up band, Bluesmakers&Roadband United Force appeared before John Mayall concert in Vilnius, Lithuania. Belkin-Jutas Acoustic Duo and saxophone player Darius Kodikas warmed up Candy Dufler and then Chris Botti. Blues Cats
The founder of the band Giedrius Klimka – guit.voc.harm. started his career playing in various local bands. Such blues players as Robert Johnson, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Mississippi John Hurt, Johnny Winter, encouraged him to search for his own original music. “GKG Blues Cats” was created from separate music shows in various bars and clubs in Vilnius, Lithuania. At that time various musicians (Rubinas (Benas) Vainas, Vladimir Kaplan, Robertas Mankus and others) played with G.Klimka. The band existed only as a jam band and was knowm only for a particular audience. But nevertheless Giedrius Klimka even at that time has already been participatin in local festivals (“Varniai Blues Night”, “Pūdas Druskos”, etc.) In 2001 “GKG Blues Cats” participated in festival “Pelican Blues” in Riga. (G.Klimka, Gediminas Alekna – bass, Salvijus Žeimys – drums.) In 2004 “Varniai Blues Night” (G.Klimka, Eugenijus Mikšys – bass, Eugenijus Zubkėvič – drums.) “Minsk Blues 2008“ (G.Klimka, E.Mikšys, Linas Labudis - drums). Lately “GKG Blues Cats” are Giedrius Klimka, Eugenijus Mikšys – bass, Eugenijus Zubkėvič or Linas Labudis – drums. Eugenijus Mikšys – a talented bass player (has been with Litnuania TV orchestra and bigband since 1977). He works with various Lithuanian jazz players and makes records in various studios. He has taken part in joint projects with musicians from Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Eugenijus worked with a well-known blues musician Mickey Baker. He also participated in country music festivals with musicians from Poland, Australia and other countries. Eugenijus Zubkėvič – jazz, rock and blues drummer. He performs with various performers and bands. He participated in Birštonas, Moscow, Vitebsk as well as great number of other jazz festivals. He performed in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Poland and Germany. He is the founder of „Tax Free“ band. He has also worked with S.Šiaučiulis, M.Granovskaja, S.Januška, rock band „Plentas“, etc. Linas Labudis – a talented jazz player, participates in various projects with such musicians as R.Grabštas, A.Dunis, D.Praspaliauskis and others. He participated in Birštonas, Riga jazz festivals and also had concerts in Estonia, Belgium, Norway, Holland, France,etc.He is a founder of Balčikonis gymnasium Young drummers orchestra. Giedrius Klimka also works as a sound engineer in recording studios and helps various performers and bands – Keksi, Raversong, Spichki, Katedra. „GKG Blues Cats“ (promo, demo) recorded at G.Klimka‘s home studio – „Balkone" Grupė buvo žinoma tik siauram klausytojų ratui, tačiau Giedrius Klimka jau dalyvaudavo Varnių bliuzo festivalyje (1995,1996,1997,2007). 1997m. "Bliuzo Katinai" debiutavo Druskininkų kantri-bliuzo festivalyje "Pūdas Druskos". 2001m. "Blues Cats" pasirodė Rygos festivalyje "Pelican Blues" (Giedrius Klimka - git. vok. armonik. Gediminas Alekna - bosinė g. Salvijus Žeimys - mušamieji). 2004m. Varnių "Bliuzo Naktys" (G.Klimka, Eugenijus Mikšys - bosinė g. Julija Ritčik - vocal, acoustic guitar (the main songwriter of the band) Andžej Zujevič - lead guitar (electric/acoustic), back vocal Justas Jasenka - rhythm guitar (electric/acoustic), vocal Rimantas Jasenka - bass, vocal Laimonas Staniulionis - drums, percussion (management) The 4FUN was formed in 2001 when Julija and Laimonas separated from a well-known Lithuanian blues band “The Road Band”. It took a couple of years to make the band a stable one. Justas and Andžej joined 4FUN in 2002. Rimantas joined the band in 2006 (though in 1996-1997 Julija and Laimonas used to play together with him in “The Road Band”). The 4FUN performs in music clubs and participates in different music events and festivals throughout Lithuania and Europe. In 2003 The 4 FUN won an LCMA (Lithuanian Country Musicians Association) award "LOVE 2001-2003" for the best debut of 2 years. In 2004 at "Visagino Country" (international annual country music festival, Lithuania) the band got a special prize "Auktaitijos dvasia" from the sponsors of the festival. In 2004 The 4FUN released the first CD - a live album “Gyvas” (which means both "Alive" and "Live" in Lithuanian) - it was a record of a live performance on Lithuanian National Radio. Julia Ritčik finished a piano class speciality at a music school. She started her singing career in 1994 in a well-known Lithuanian blues band "The Road Band". She sang with it for longer than 6 years and recorded together 6 albums. In 1995 - 1997 Julia took part in a project "The Acoustic Trio" (V. Jutas, J. Ritčik, A.Belkin ) and together with it recorded an album in 1995. She also sang for 5 years with "The Country Blues Session Band" (CBSB) lead by a well-known Lithuanian composer and fiddler A. Klova, together with this band she recorded an album in 2001. In 1999 Julia with CBSB participated in the biggest in Europe Country songs competition "Country Europe" in Mrągowo (Poland) where the band won the second award (Julia sang both contest songs; one of them was her original composition "Ant Krantų"). In 1994-2001 with the bands The Acoustic Trio, The Road Band and The Country Blues Session Band Julia performed in many jazz, blues and country music festivals in Lithuania, in some international blues festivals in Minsk, Kiev and Moscow and country music festivals in Poland, Latvia and The Netherlands. In 1998 Julija won an LCMA (Lithuanian Country Musicians Association) award as the best singer. She is included into 2002 catalogue "Who is who in Lithuania" (Lithuanian edition). Besides, Julia has got two higher educations (in 1993 she graduated from Vilnius University with a bachelor's degree in programming and in 2002 from Vilnius Pedagogical University with a bachelor's degree in ELT), Since 1996 she has worked as an English teacher in a secondary school in Vilnius Andžej Zujevič finished a piano class at a music school. In 2003 he graduated from Vilnius Conservatory guitar faculty (he was a disciple of a famous Lithuanian musician and guitar teacher Stasys Daugirdas). At the moment he is a student of Vilniaus Music and Theatre Academy guitar faculty, this year he’s going to graduate with a bachelor degree. In 2004 Andžej won the first prize in Vilnius guitarists competitions. He also performs in music clubs with various jazz projects and is invited for recording in studios a s a session musician. Justas Jasenka has dealt with music since he was a child. He finished a piano class at a music school. His guitar teacher was a well-known Lithuanian blues guitarist Vladimir Kaplan. Justas also studied acting in Vilnius Music and Theatre Academy. Rimantas Jasenka has played in many different groups: "Trimitas", "Ritmas", Estradinės melodijos", "Oktava", "Coda", "Vienkiemis", "The Road Band", "Country Blues Session Band", "Spiridis" (Latvia), Kęstutis Antanėlis band, Aleksandr Orlov band, Laimutis Vilkončius band. He has also played with "Kristoforas" symphony orchestra. With these groups he toured many European, African, Latin American and Arabian countries. He has sung in Lithuanian famous rock operas "Romeo and Juliet" and "Per Gunt" by Kęstutis Antanėlis. He also played and sung in the firs European performances of "Jesus Christ Super Star" in 1972. Laimonas Staniulionis finished a trombone class at a music school. Then he studied drums in Vilnius Conservatory, played in a rock group "The Endless Way" and participated in several youth jazz-rock projects. Later Laimonas continued studying drums in Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the UK. After he came back to Lithuania he played in "The Road Band" for four years, recorded 4 albums with it and participated in many festivals. Laimonas also played drums in "CBSB" and recorded one album with it. Laimonas is a member of LCMA, at the moment he holds the post of the assistant director of the Association. A well-known in Lithuania and abroad blues band The Road Band was formed in the summer of 1992 in Vilnius. The Road Band plays standard and original songs in rhythm and blues rocknroll, jazz, and country styles. Had played more than one thousand concerts. The band is described in the book "Who is who in Vilnius district 2003". The band has released 10 albums. The Road Band musicians: -
Aleksandr Belkin (vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, harp) is the leader of the band. The author of the most of the original songs of the band. He has the diplomas of Vilnius Conservatory and VPU. Before he formed The Road Band, he used to play in many jazz, blues and rocknroll bands. He played in the first Lithuanian blues band Hilda Blues Band. With those bands he toured many European countries. In 1999 as a member of The Country Blues Session Band he participated in Country Europe international contest in Mragowo, Poland; the band won the second award there. Aleksandr has released his 2 solo blues albums Real Love and Black Papa. Apart from his playing in "The Road Band", Aleksandr Belkin participates in many music projects together with famous Lithuanian musicians, also plays with foreign musicans. The most famous are Keb' Mo' (1996 in Holland) and Studebaker John (2007 in Lithuania). Sometimes, Aleksandr makes gigs with big bands. Aleksandr Belkin is described in the book "Who is who in Lithuania" (2002, 2006) He has written and published the book "A brief history of Jazz" supplied with CD (publishing house " Kronta"). In the festival " Blues Nights" on 2003 he's got a "Golden string" award. On 2003 and 2008 in the "Country Saloon" in Vilnius A. Belkin won a Grand Prix in the contest of cazoo playing. Aleksandr - is the member of " The World Resophonic Association". Besides, he is invovled as a member of the best harmonic‘s players of the world. -
Darius Kodikas (tenor and soprano saxophones, keyboards) is the oldest member of the band. He has a diploma of Vilnius Conservatory. He is a very creative musician and shares his ideas with many famous Lithuanian jazz musicians. The peculiar rocknroll timbre of his saxophone imparts different moods to the bands compositions and contributes to the beat of the band. -
Sergejus Sopelevas-Vysocki (bass guitar) Sergei plays the bass guitar, arranges music compositions and composes music. Sergei Sopelev started his musical career in 1997. In 1978-1981 he served in a military orchestra where he played the tuba in a big band and a variety band. In 1982-1987 he studied at Vilnius J. Tallat-Kelpsa Music Colledge and played in a band "Veidrodis". In 1988-1993 Sergei studied at St. Petersburg Culture Academy the leader of an orchestra speciality. Sergei Sopelev has taught music since 1983; since 1988 he has been leading the bass guitar, arrangement, instrumentation, improvisation and ensebmble classes at Vilnius Conservatory. Since 1986 Sergei has participated in all prominent Lithuanian jazz festivals. As a session musician he has recorded many albums with diferent Lithuanian composers. In 1995-1997 he played the bass guitar in "The Road Band". In 1997-1999 he played in G. Paskevicius band, composed music and recorded two albums with that band. At the same period he played in concerts with "The Gypsy Kings" and Demis Russos, toured with concerts in Russia, Poland, Denmark and Germany. In 1999 he released his solo album "EGO". Jevgenij Zubkevich (drums) He started his musicans career when he was 6 years old at music school.When he was 14 he started to play on drums at variety school ensemble. While he was the member of Plentas group, he participated in Lituanica-86 festival, had concerts in rock klubs in Riga. At the time he was studeing in Klaipeda conservatory , he was playing with S. Siauciulio quartet, and with such singers as M.Granovskaja and S. Januska, moreover he was the member of different festivals in Vitebsk, Kryvoj Rog, Moscow, Kazan, Jaroslavl and Birstonas, was the member in different musicans projects in Klaipeda, also was the member of festivals in Sweden, Germany, Denmark. Either Jevgenij was the member of Nerija, Crazy crow groups, and the founder of Tax free group. From 1998 Jevgenij Zubkevic is living in Vilnius and was collaborated with E. Sipavicius, Neda, Arina, G. Paskevicius and other musicans. With differnet musican projects he giged in Norway, Poland. Now in Vilnius he gigs with such groups as East and west, Blues cats, Latino kabareto. From 2005 is playing with the group THE ROAD BAND Guests: Grazina Deicko – back vocal, fiddle.
